Yellow Flower

I am an author of Magical Realism and Women’s Fiction who believes that even the smallest and most overlooked things in life have stories worth telling. Inspired by a love for the outdoors, plants and animals, and forgotten places, my writing explores themes of healing, belonging, transformation, and hope.

My storytelling includes human and non-human characters and my stories often center on women, outsiders, and unwanted things that quietly reveal unexpected beauty and strength. Using examples nature, folklore, and everyday life, I hope to remind readers that the parts of the world that are often dismissed can be filled with power, magic, and beauty.

When I am not writing, I enjoy camping with my dogs, gardening, photography, and creating nature-inspired crafts.

Dandelion Synopsis

By Sunrise David

Along the trash-strewn median of a busy highway, Dandelion struggles for survival and devotes herself to protecting her daughters. When humans decide to clear the land, the family is saved and miraculously transported to the yard of a family home, where Dandelion hopes for safety and stability for her family. But the established trees know the dark secrets of the family living in the house and the mysterious girl who can communicate with plants. While her younger daughter falls gravely ill, her older daughter is drawn into a dangerous plot to rescue the girl from her abusive family. To save her family, Dandelion must learn to trust in her daughters’ strengths and decide for herself if she is just weed, or a hero.

Olive

"If we follow Mr. Hemlock, we risk our lives and our children’s lives. Moreover, if we survive, we survive as murderers, and we teach our children that murder is justified.”

“Listen Ma, I’ve been talking to the Loblolly twins and some of the plants are thinking about helping that girl in the house. They said there’s a meeting tonight at the back fence and I’m thinking that I want to attend”, Olive’s tone was nervous but rigidly defiant.

Naomi

“Nobody likes me. I’m the gross weirdo. You and the other plants are my friends. Nobody else talks to me. I just go to school and do the work they give me and turn it in. I like school because they give me food and nobody hurts me there."

Hemlock

“I know you fear me. It’s only natural, Dandelion. You think I’m an assassin. A monster. But, like you, I’m also a very useful plant.

After a long silence, a small but steady voice began to speak. She had no right to speak. She was a newcomer to the garden. She was small and unimportant. She was only a weed, and not even an attractive weed at that. Despite all the reasons why she shouldn’t matter, and shouldn’t be heard, Dandelion spoke up.
